A new independent poll of 890 Vermont residents found that Vermonters overwhelmingly support regulating and taxing the sale of cannabis to adults.[1] The poll was conducted by Public Policy Polling on February 14 and 15 and was commissioned by the Marijuana Policy Project. Here are some highlights:
Seventy-six percent (76%) of Vermonters support “allowing adults 21 and older to purchase cannabis from regulated, tax-paying small businesses.” This includes support from the following:
76% of women, 77% of men
82% of Democrats, 80% of independents, and 58% of Republicans
85% of 18 to 29-year-olds, 82% of 30 to 49-year-olds, 71% of 50 to 64-year-olds, and 69% of Vermonters age 65 and older
69% of Vermonters with a high school education or less, 76% of those with some college experience, 81% of college graduates, and 84% of those with postgraduate experience
58% of Vermonters who voted for Donald Trump, 85% of Vermonters who voted for Hillary Clinton
The poll also found that Vermonters overwhelmingly support the state’s current laws regarding medical and adult-use cannabis:
87% support continuing to allow medical cannabis
78% support keeping the law to allow adults to possess and use cannabis
76% support keeping the law to allow adults to grow cannabis
