AUGUSTA, Maine —  Following a recount of 30% of the votes, opponents of Question 1 conceded the election and withdrew their recount request. Possession and home-growing of limited amounts of marijuana will officially become legal for adults 21 years of age and older 30 days after the governor proclaims the election results.

"After counting nearly a third of all the ballots in Maine, it was clear that the recount was not going to change the result. We are grateful that the No on 1 campaign has conceded and look forward to working together towards a successful implementation of Question 1," said Marijuana Policy Project Maine Political Director David Boyer, who served as campaign manager for the Yes on 1 campaign.

The Maine Secretary of State's office consistently indicated it did not expect much change due to the high precision of Maine's voting machines, which they report to be 99.9% accurate.
