Mason has been working to change public policies and public attitudes surrounding marijuana since 2005. In addition to serving as MPP’s spokesperson and media relations director, Mason is a partner and vice president of communications at VS Strategies, a Denver-based public affairs firm.
Mason previously served as MPP’s director of communications, overseeing strategic communications, media relations, and online outreach for the organization. He has worked on several state and local initiative and legislative advocacy campaigns, and he co-directed the successful 2012 initiative campaign to regulate marijuana like alcohol in Colorado. Prior to joining the MPP staff, Mason co-founded and served as executive director of Safer Alternative For Enjoyable Recreation (SAFER), an MPP-funded nonprofit advocacy and public education organization that laid the groundwork for legalization in Colorado.
Mason is a co-author of the book, Marijuana is Safer: So Why Are We Driving People to Drink?, and he has been called “The Don Draper of Pot” by Politico Magazine, “marijuana’s top evangelist” by The Boston Globe, and Colorado’s “top thinker” in politics and government by The Denver Post.
